Prescription Verification

Prescription Verification

1. Prescription Verification
To provide the best care possible to our customers, we have implemented a verification system that follows the Fairness to Contact Lens Consumer Law (FCLCA) and Rules for the customers. We are required to verify prescriptions before we ship any lenses.

We highly recommend you to renew your prescription if your prescription is expired. It is necessary to get your eye health examined regularly , even if you aren’t experiencing any issues with vision, so please consult with your eye care professionals.

2. How Does the Process Work?
We provide easy options to verify your prescription. Customers may provide us with a valid prescription script by emailing us at hello@tijneyewear.com or contacting us by Service Center, or we could verify directly with the prescriber.

1) Upload your Prescription script
You can provide us a copy of your valid prescription written by eye care professionals. You can either scan or snap a picture of your written prescription. Once the prescription is uploaded, we will keep the record for you . Providing invalid or inaccurate prescription may result in order cancellation.

2) Submit contact detail of your eye care professional/optometrist/optician
Kindly provide us with the necessary information, name and phone number of your eye care professionals. We will use this information to contact them and verify the accuracy of the prescription. Your eye care professionals have eight-business-hours to respond. If your eye care professionals do not respond within the required time, the prescription is verified automatically, and we may process and ship your order.

A valid prescription requires the following:

OD: OD stands for oculus dexter, the Latin phrase for “right eye.”
OS: OS stands for oculus sinister, the Latin phrase for “left eye.”

If both the left and right eye has the same diagnosis and prescription information, the abbreviation “OU” is used instead, or “ocular uniter,” meaning both eyes.

Sphere (SPH): The SPH number corrects for nearsighted [indicated with a minus (-)] or farsighted [indicated with a plus (+)] vision. We only supply Myopia lenses at the moment.

Cylinder (CYL), Axis: The CYL number and AXIS number are correct for astigmatism. They always appear in pairs. If no cylinder power is noted, either you’ve no astigmatism or your astigmatism is so slight that it is not really necessary to correct it with your eyeglass lenses. We don't sell colored contacts for astigmatism.

Pupillary Distance: The pupillary distance (PD) measurement is the distance between your pupils. Only single PD is available on our website. If you have dual PD, add them up. If your doctor does not provide your PD, you can measure it yourself with our guide.

ADD: Add stands for Addition. It stands for the additional correction that you need for reading. It is used in progressive glasses. It represents the additional power over the distance prescription. It only appears once in your prescription because the additional power is the same for both eyes. The value is typically between +0.50 to +4.00.

4. How To Measure your PD
Step 1. Use a ruler that has millimeter measurements. You can also use a ruler with centimeter measurements and simply multiply the result by 10 to get your millimeter measurement. Or you can also use any straight object such as a book, magazine, piece of cardstock, etc. to mark the location of your pupils, then simply measure the distance between your marks.

Step 2. Stand about 8 inches (20 cm) away from a well-lit mirror with your face parallel and square to the mirror. Hold the ruler just below your eyes, keeping it exactly horizontal.

Step 3. Close your left eye and align the ruler's zero (0) measurement to the center of your right pupil.

Step 4. Without moving your head or the ruler, open your left eye and close your right eye. Read the millimeter line that lines up with the center of your left pupil. This is your PD measurement.

Step 5. Repeat these steps at least 3 to 5 times to get an accurate and consistent measurement. Make sure your head and the ruler do not move after lining up the zero (0) measurement with your right pupil until you note your measurement. Ask a friend to help if you are having trouble.

5. Summary
